This large-scale piece for symphony orchestra portrays man's quest, drawing on the musical imagery of a ship at sea, battered by the elements, but somehow struggling on. The inevitable "wreck", however, leads unexpectedly to a long final section in which an off-stage voice singing in a language nobody understands seems to tell of salvation beyond despair. Here is an extract of stormy weather!
